Handmade personalised coasters

Updated: Oct 30, 2018

Yay summer holiday! Hold on its 5 weeks! Why not occupy kids with some art and craft?

We had great fun recently making handmade personalised coasters for teachers. Girls come up with the quotes their teachers and teacher's assistants were using the most during the year.

To make similar coasters you will need:

Wooden/ply wood cut into squares

Paint brushes

Liquid chalk marker

Beewax polish (Behandla Ikea Wax)

First sand the ply wood and apply 2 coats of the chalkboard paint. Once the coasters are dry, be creative and write quotes or draw designs with liquid chalk marker. Leave dry a bit and seal it with wax polish which repels water (leave at least 12h between the coats, using different direction of brush strokes each time).

Last cut cork sheets into squares using the coaster as a stencil and adhere to the bottom side of the coaster.
